NORTH KOREA LAUNCHES NUCLEAR MISSILES
North Korea has confirmed that it has test-fired a series of missiles and said it would continue launching them.
It also warned of "stronger physical actions" if the international community tried to put pressure on Pyongyang.
NK launched 7 missiles, one of which was a failed test of a long-range Taepodong-2, believed to be capable of hitting Alaska.
China and Russia - sympathetic to the North - oppose any punitive measures.
Japan is reportedly pushing for economic sanctions while South Korea is anxious to continue engaging with the North.

South Korea Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok called for "patient dialogue" rather than sanctions.
North Korea
One reason why North Korea walked away from the six-party talks was the imposition of financial sanctions by the United States.
The international community has been offering Iran a package of "incentives" to persuade it to suspend its uranium enrichment programme. North Korea will be asking why it has not been offered the same.

UK SAYS GLOBAL HEATING IS REAL!
An expert panel convened by BBC News has concluded that climate change is "real and dangerous".
The panel's discussions were based on themes set by Professor James Lovelock in his latest book The Revenge of Gaia.
"I think it should be a call for action, and that action has to involve organisations and governments worldwide."
"I'm confident on the technology; I'm much less confident that we have the social and political will to make the hard decisions that are required.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS NOT SO BAD
Guadalupe Denogean. Master Gunnery Sergeant Denogean came to the United States from Mexico when he was a boy. He spent his summers picking crops with his family, and then he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps as soon as he was able. During the liberation of Iraq, Master Gunnery Sergeant Denogean was seriously injured. When asked if he had any requests, he made two: a promotion for the corporal who helped rescue him, and the chance to become an American citizen. And when this brave marine raised his right hand, and swore an oath to become a citizen of the country he had defended for more than 26 years, I was honored to stand at his side.
SOPHIA LOREN 71 POSES FOR PIRELLI CALENDAR
Italian actress Sophia Loren, 71, has become the oldest woman to pose for the celebrated Pirelli calendar.
The Oscar-winning star is one of five actresses to appear on the calendar's 33rd edition, due out in November.
Naomi Watts, Penelope Cruz, Hilary Swank and France's Lou Doillon will also appear, according to reports.
Loren said she "had a lot of fun, like a young girl" posing for the calendar. Pirelli has denied reports she has been photographed nude.
A picture from the photo shoot published in Milan's Corriere della Sera newspaper shows the actress in lingerie under a bed sheet.
The calendar is being shot by Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Winoodh Matadin.
Loren was born in 1934 and grew up in the slums of Naples.
She started working as a model at the age of 14, and was ushered into acting by future husband Carlo Ponti.

Islamist fighters in Somalia
The Islamists control much of southern Somalia
Two people are reported dead after Islamist gunmen in central Somalia opened fire in a cinema where people were watching a banned World Cup match.
The introduction of Islamic law, or Sharia, has included in some areas a ban on cinemas and on broadcasts of World Cup games because they have carried advertisements for alcohol.

Like billions of other people around the world, 25-year-old Phra Prawit is avidly following the World Cup - and especially his favourite team, France.
One report in the Nation newspaper cited an angry woman in the city of Chiang Mai who said her birthday celebrations had been ruined because she arrived at a temple with her carefully-prepared alms, only to find that most monks were still in bed.

TURKS BACK GER FOR WORLD CUP
"We support Germany, of course. We live here, we eat their bread!" says Mr Yildirim. "Our families are here and our future is here."
In other Turkish areas it is no different. There were reports of celebratory gunshots over Berlin's Turkish neighbourhood of Kreuzberg after Germany's victory over Ecuador.
If Turkey were in the competition, however, it would be a different story.
Turk-free squad - Turks make up the largest ethnic minority in Germany, but there are none in Germany's World Cup squad. It is not as if the squad is not diverse - almost a quarter of the players have some foreign blood.
Turkish areas of Germany are often said to be parallel societies.
"When I was young, we had lots of foreign boys in our clubs. These days they go to their own clubs," says Matthias Heitmann, co-editor of the German magazine Novo.
"They feel German in some sense, but they are not fully accepted citizens,
GERMANY ECO STADIUM
Borussia Dortmund's football ground, as well as being one of the biggest and most formidable in Germany, is one of the centrepieces of the country's strategy to run an ecological World Cup.
The venue for six matches, including a potential Germany semi-final, is bristling with solar panels that generate 550,000 kilowatt-hours of energy a year.
The organisers say the stadia used for the event have all been refurbished and offer state-of-the-art environmental features.
The ground in Munich, for instance, harvests rainwater from the stadium site, storing it in underground reservoirs.
All energy used at the stadia during the World Cup is being imported from hydroelectric plants in Switzerland.
There are also incentives for fans to use buses and trains rather than planes and cars.
Supporters with football tickets get free match-day transport, while a pass offering unlimited travel on the rail network for the month-long tournament costs 349 euros (£255).
At every stage - from the upgrading of stadia, to the hours of floodlighting provided for each match - the cost in greenhouse gas emissions has been calculated.
